He was born on July 20, 1987, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Mallett played college football at the University of Michigan in 2008 and later transferred to the University of Arkansas, where he played from 2009 to 2010.
The New England Patriots drafted him in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft.
Throughout his NFL career, Mallett made eight starts in 21 games.
